Tabo Monastery

Location

A monastery that is next only to the Tholing Gompa in Tibet and is considered a historic treasure of India - that's Tabo Monastery. The Tabo Monastery in Spiti is a highly revered monatery for Budhists. The monastery dates back to 996 AD, and celebrated its millenium birthday in 1996. The temple complex is often visited by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The monastery, established in 996 AD, The Year of the Fire Ape by the Tibetan Calendar, by great teacher and translator Lotsawa Rinchen Tsang Po, is today more than thousand years old. It was developed as an advanced centre for learning and till date it has managed to preserve the Buddhist legacy with the same steadfastness.

Arya Samaj Mandir

Location

Arya Samaj Mandir is a mounting climb shrine constructed by Samuel Stokes (later known as Satyanand Stokes) in the architectural style of beautiful Pahari style. This is a stone temple placed perfectly in the midst of picturesque apple orchards blended with colors of green apple trees and blood red apples. Arya Samaj Mandir spearheads many cultural, religious and regional activities of Thanedar. The temple has adorned with inscriptions from Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads. This is a nice calm religious place and a soothing attraction to pay a visit in Thanedar.

St Mary's Church

Location

St Mary’s Church, consecrated in 1843 as per local people, is situated very close to Thanedar at Kotgrah in Shimla District of Himachal Pradesh. This old-fashioned wooden Church with glittering stained glass windows today marks the existence of the Anglican Church in Kotgarh. Built in s very simple neo- classical style of architecture, this wooden structure holds the attraction of visitors. The church also has an adjacent cemetery carrying the historical symbols of a bygone time. Gorton Mission School started in 1843 is located nearby.
