Ramar Temple

Location

The Ramar temple is a famous temple situated in Ramnagar closer to the Gandhipuram bus stand in Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. Daily events as upanyasam and other poojas will take place in the temple during evening times. Also, some discussions on religious faith and spiritual belief will also take place in the temple during morning or evening hours. The temple is completely dedicated to the lord Rama and quite number of Rama disciples makes their visit to the temple.

St Antony's Church

Location

St Antony's Church is one of the most familiar place of worship, were quite number of people turn to the place for their needs. St Antony's Church is located some 4 kilometers away from Coimbatore city. People can travel easily to reach the shrine as there is a frequent bus facility available from the town. The major highlighting feature of this chapel is that, several thousands of people belonging to various caste, religion and language visit the chapel every week particularly on Tuesdays. Mass timings of the church are from 6 am to 7.30 am and 11.30 am to 6 pm on Tuesdays.

Vellingiri Hill Temple

Location

The Vellingiri Hill temple is situated some 40 kilometers away from Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. The temple is purely dedicated to lord Siva and the overall altitude of the hill is 6000 feet. The Vellingiri hill temple is considered to be the most famous worship place and a massive tourists group visits the hill temple to make their prayers. Moreover the hill is familiar for its extravagant natural resources. People can find several different essential rare herbs grown on the hill, which could be used for medication.

Eachanari Vinayagar Temple

Location

Eachanari Vinayagar Temple is a pilgrimage temple, situated in Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. This is one of the ancient temples in Coimbatore city as it was build some long year back in 1500 A.D. The main deity of this temple is lord Vinayagar and this temple will be close to the hearts of Vinayagar devotees. Actually, the moolavar in this temple was in fact intended for Perur Patteshwarar temple, as it got spanked on the path from Madurai, Eachnari turned to be the holy place. The deity of lord Vinayagar is 6 feet in height and 3 feet in width.

Sabhanayaka Nataraja Temple

Location

The Nataraja temple spread over 40 acres is the main attraction of Chidambaram is a unique temple and is devoted to the art of Bharatnatyam. It is also one of the atypical temples where Lord Shiva is represented in the idol form rather than the usual lingam form. The temple has an outer enclosure adorned with four magnificent seven-tiered gopurams with finely sculptured icons depicting Hindu mythology. A black curtain hides the idol of lord Natraja and is lifted thrice a day for worshipping. Adjacent to the main shrine is the shrine of Lord Vishnu.

Thillai Kali Amman Temple

Location

Arulmigu Thillai Kali Amman Temple is a revered temple located to the north of the world famous Nataraja Temple in Chidambaram. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali Amman and is one of the known Shakthi (Parvati) temple. 'Thillai Kali' form of the Goddess is a deity in anger. Myths points to the argument between Shiva and Parvati about the superiority. The disgusted Parvati appeared in the anger posture “Thillai Kali”.

Karaikudi

Location

Located in the heart of Chettinad, Karaikudi is home to several temples and mansions. The palatial homes of the Nattukottai Chettiars, some of them over a hundred years old, line the main streets of Karaikudi. The high walls are artistically decorated with elaborate designs and attractive colors on the outside. Built in the early 20th century the houses used to reflect the social and economic status of the people who lived in it. The spacious interiors are adorned with fine paintings and sometimes paneled with wood.

Chettiar Clan Temple

Location

There are total nine clan temples (family temples) for the Chettiar community. The temples are in the nine clusters of the villages forming the Chettinad. The clan temples are granted by the Pandya Kings. The nine Chettiar Clan temples are at Velankudi, Soorakudi, Nemam, Vairavanpatti, Ilayathangudi, Iranikoil, Pillaiyarpatti, Iluppakudi and Mathur.

The Chettiar clan temple of llayathangudi is an ancient temple built on 707 AD and is located at the heartland of Chettinad. The temple is renowned for the exquisite and unique architectural brilliance. The temple is decorated with the unique style of Chettiar community.
