Chandrashila

Location

One among the pictorial locations in the Rudraprayag District, Chandrashila is placed at an elevation of 3679 meter. It’s easy accessibility makes it a much desired trekking spot in the locality. Except in December to January, this peak is suitable for trekking and allied activities. Chandrashila trek is categorized as a moderate level trek, which would take a complete week.

Apart from trekking, Chandrashila is ideal for other escapades like skiing and scaling. The trek to Chandrashila unfolds the awesome views of the snow clad mountain peaks. Though the main destination is the summit of the peak, the lord Shiva temple on the high precepts is also worthy for a visit.

Gaurikund

It's the trekking base for to Kedarnath. The village has a temple dedicated to Gauri and hot water springs. At a distance of 5 km from Son Prayag and at a altitude of 1982 m, Gaurikund is the last bus station on the Kedarnath route. Before proceeding for Kedarnath on foot, people bath in the hot water pond here and visit the Gauri Devi temple. This is the place where Goddess Parvati meditated to attain Lord Shiva.

Guptkashi

Location

Famed for the Ardhanareeshwar and Viswanath temples, Gupt Kashi serves as an ideal stopover place for the devotees to Kedarnath. As per Hindu Mythology, Lord Shiva makes himself hidden here for some time. During winter, the deity at the Kedarnath shrine proceeds through this place to its winter abode. Viswanath is one among the many incarnations of Lord Shiva. Viswanath literally means the lord of the Universe. The temple premises reflect the architectural style of the bygone eras.

Kedarnath Temple

Location

A temple believed to be constructed by Sankaracharya, Kedarnath temple at the Garhwal region of Himalayas gains great religious significance. This might be one among the unique temples that demands a tiring trek to have a darshan of the deity. Winter in this region is so severe that the temple remains closed during those months.

It is one of the twelve Jyothirlingas and is closely associated with Pandavas. It is believed that the Pandavas sought redemption from lord Shiva after the Kurukshethra war against their kith and kin. Reluctant to give pardon, Lord Shiva made himself hidden here in Kedarnath in shape of a bull.

Shankaracharya Samadhi

Location

The famous Hindu philosopher Sri Sankaracharya is considered to be the renovator of the Kedarnath shrine. History says that, in order to propagate his Adwaita Philosophy he had made relentless journeys. It is believed that this great scholar came to Kedarnath and established this holy shrine and one of his four Mathas in 8th century. It also believed that he had attained the nirvana here at the tender age of 32.

Triyuginarayan

Location

A five-kilometer trek from Son Prayag leads to Triyuginarayan, a charming village in Rudraprayag. Famed for the old temple in the name of Vishnu, this is an often frequented place by the devotees. In architecture and design this temple resembles the Kedarnath shrine. Encircled by abundant foliage the temple at Trijuginarayan give a picture of the ethnicity and customs of India. The entire structure in the temple is designed in such a way that it should give a homely feeling.
