Dhyan Badri Temple

Location

Located at an elevated site of 1920 meters, the Dhyan Badri temple has a strong association with the legendary Pandavas. The popular belief is that the Pandavas had chosen Pandukeshar as their abode after they have abdicated the throne of Hasthinapur. The temple at Pandukeshar is named after the Pandavas and the presiding deity has figured in a pensive position. Dhyan Badri temple is regarded as one among the Panch Kedars where lord Shiva is the chief deity. The lord in a brooding pose is so marvelous that tit fills the minds of the devotees with an eerie feeling.

Kalpeshwar Temple

Location

An ancient rock temple that bears a close association with the mighty Pandavas, Kalpeshwar temple enchants the devotee with its exquisite devoutness. It is believed that this was the place where the hair and head of Lord Shiva fell on. Hence the lord is adorned and worshipped in the form of disheveled hair.

Narasimhadeva Temple

Location

In this temple is a Deity of Lord Narasimha, which is self-manifested from a shalagram-shila. He is about 25cm (10 in) high and remarkably detailed, sitting in a lotus position. To the right of Lord Narasimha are Sita, Rama, Hanuman, and Garuda. Against the left wall is a deity of Chandika, which is another name for Kali. On the altar to the right of Lord Narasimha are deities of Kubera, Uddhava, and Badri Vishal. There is an altar for Lakshmi Devi just outside the door of the temple.

Sankaracharya Math (Mutt)

Location

This temple is located on the ridge above the upper part of the town. If you enter the temple and follow the signs to your left, you come to the cave where Sankaracharya is said to have meditated. If you go up the steps to the right of the temple entrance (before entering the temple complex), you come to the Kalpavriksa tree, where Sankaracharya is said to have attained self-realization. This 38m (125 ft) tall tree has a huge trunk and is said to be more than 2,400 years old. Sankaracharya wrote the Sankara Bhasya in Joshimath.

Vasudeva Temple

Location

This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, recognized by the Tamil Nadu Vaishnava saints as being very important Vishnu temples. The black carved stone Deity of Lord Vasudeva is about 2m (6 ft) tall. He stands with his associates Sri, Bhu, Nila, and Kama. This temple is about 30m from the Narasimhadeva Temple. To the left of the main entrance is a deity of dancing Ganesh, which is said to be one of only two such deities in India. This temple is very ancient, and no one knows exactly how old it is.

Bharat Mata Mandir

Location

Bharat Mata or Mother India has a temple dedicated to her by devoted patriotic nationals. The Bharat Mata temple is a religious shrine, founded by Swami Satyamitranand Giri. This temple was inaugurated by Late Prime Minister, Smt Indira Gandhi, in the year 1983.

Located at Sapt Sarovar, the Bharat Mata temple stands tall with eight stories at 180 feet. Each floor of this shrine is representative of various mythologies, legends and deities. This temple salutes all the patriotic freedom fighters who contributed to the freedom of India.

Chandi Devi Temple

Location

Chandi Devi temple is known to be a divine place where wishes are granted and fulfilled by Goddess Chandi. One of the most ancient temples of India, Chandi Devi temple is located on the hill top. One can either take a ropeway ride to the temple, or spend over 45 minutes to climb the steep steps leading to the temple.
