Paper Mill

Location

The paper mill of the Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited, at Panchgram, is one of the biggest paper mills in Asia and is located a few kilometers from Silchar, en route to Badarpur. This mill was established by late Moinul Haq Choudhury, who was the minister of the region during the 1960s. The entire region is surrounded by lush greenery and people often come here to explore the mill and enjoy the natural scenery.

Namdang Bridge

Location

Around 12 km from Sibsagar, over the vast Namdang River, a bridge was constructed from a single solid rock, which still stands proud and erect as Namdang Bridge. This famous bridge was built in 1703, by King Rudra Singha of the Ahom Dynasty. It was actually constructed by the skilled craftsmen of Bengal and was later brought to this state. A visit to the legendary Namdang Bridge is a must if you are in Sibsagar.

Garamur Satra

Location

This Satra was established by Lakshmikantadeva and preserves some unique ancient weapons like cannons (Bortop). An important form of dance called Raasleela is performed here with great enthusiasm. It is a depiction of the mischievous sport played by Lord Krishna with his Gopis, on the banks of the river Yamuna, in the historic town of Vrindavan.

Auniati Satra

Location

This Satra was founded by Niranjan Pathakdeva and has thousands of followers and devotees all over the world. It is especially famous for the Paalnaam and Apsara dance performed here. Moreover, the Satra has a good collection of old Assamese articles, like jewelry, utensils, and handicrafts.

War Cemetery

Location

War Cemetery is one of the two in Assam and 23 in entire India. The other one is in Guwahati. Here is the eternal resting place of those brave people who lost their lives during World War II. Earlier the War Cemetery was located on a hilltop, but after the earthquake of 1950, the cemetery got destroyed. It was then relocated to its present location afterwards. On the morning of second Sunday in November, there is a prayer ceremony held in remembrance of the souls where important verses from Bible, Geeta, Koran and Gurugranth Sahib are read.

Golf Course

Location

Digboi has an 18 holes Golf course considered the best in the entire upper Assam, where all important tournaments are held. There are 8 other 9 hole Golf courses with tea estates between Dibrugarh and Doom Dooma. Tingri Golf Club, Samdang Golf Army Golf Club, Dinjan Kanjikoah Golf Club, Margherita Golf Club, Zoloni Golf Club, Dibrugarh District Planters Golf Club, Naharkatia Golf Club.

Koli Aai Thaan

Location

Koi Aai Thaan is a very famous tourist spot of Dibrugarh, which is dedicated to Koli Aai, the daughter of the head priest of the Dibaru Satra of Assam. It is said that due to the lack of male heir, the satra started disappearing. However, Koli Aai kept the Satra alive by preaching its ideals and principles. It is believed that Koli Aai was bestowed with divine powers and she vanished from the site one day, leaving behind a strong religious hold in the minds of the people.
