Located at Thorangtlang in the district of Lunglei is the Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary. Situated about 240 km from the region of Aizawl, Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary is on the western part of the Mizoram region. This wildlife park covers a total land area of 50 sq km and most of the area within is semi-evergreen forest that acts as a perfect passage for the wild elephants that migrate from then region of Bangladesh.
Located on the western most part of the Mizoram District is the Saza Wildlife Sanctuary, which is about 160 km from the region of Aizawl. This wildlife sanctuary covers a total land area of 15 sq km and houses wild animals like leopard, deer, rhesus and a few rare varieties of birds.
Located at a distance of about 170 km from Aizawl in Mizoram is the Khawnglung Wildlife Sanctuary. This wildlife sanctuary covers a total area of 35 sq km and is located at an altitude that ranges up to 1300 m. Some of the common species found here include wild boar, hoolock, gibbon, serow, barking deer, sambar deer and leopard.
Murlen National Park is located at a distance of 245 km east of Aizawl and is near the Indo-Myanmar border. The park is spread across an area of 100 sq. km of the sub-tropical evergreen forests and includes animals such as hoolock gibbon, Himalayan black bear, leopard, tiger and many more.
Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary is situated within the Champhai District and is very close to Lamzawl and Murlen National Park. The common animal species that can be found here are leopard, rhesus macaque, wild boars, goral, barking deer and tiger. This wildlife sanctuary is around 250 km east of Aizawl city.
Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary is very close to Indo-Myanmar and Indo-Bangladesh borders and covers about 110 sq. km of land.
Lohawka Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its forests and rich wildlife animals like sambar, slow moris, leopards, barking deer, tiger, monkeys and so on. This sanctuary is about 400 km from Aizawl and 85 km from Lawngtlai. Travellers can also see tropical semi-evergreen forests with large variety of birds.
Sinemon Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the southernmost part of Mizoram in the district of Lawngtlai. This wildlife sanctuary is spread across an area of about 143 sq. km and has animals such as leopard, wild boar, slow loris, barking deer, elephant, tiger, sambar and many more. Travellers can also see numerous bird species in this sanctuary that can be seen with the help of binoculars.
Mini Zoological Garden, located on a hill known as Bethlehem Vengthlang, is a sanctuary sheltering wildlife that is unique to the hilly region. The zoo houses a large number of species of mammals and birds, including some of the rarest animals found in Asia. A major attraction of the zoo is the endangered sun bear, who lures maximum tourists to this place. This zoo can be visited by people of all ages.
Baghmara Reserve Forest is located at a distance of 4 km from the town of Baghmara. The forest is a home to animals like langur and elephants.
Balpakram National Park is one of the prime locations situated in the proximity of Baghmara in the district of South Garo Hills. The park is situated at an altitude of 3,000 ft above the sea level and is spread in an area of 220 sq. km. This park is home to various animals such as wild buffaloes, sambar, barking deer, wild boar, slow loris, tigers, leopards, clouded leopards and the rare golden cat.
