Karol Ranges

Location

Karol Ranges are at the highest point in the Kandaghat region. It is known for an old Krishna Temple that is housed in a cave. It is said that Pandavas had dug up this cave and built this temple here. Though, no one knows the depth of the cave, some people believe that it opens up somewhere near the historical Mughal Gardens at Pinjore.

Khajjiar Villages

Location

Besides the view of the Lake in the middle of the ground, there is a lot more to explore. Outside the Khajjiar ground is thick deodar forest and amidst the forest, there are various small villages i.e. khajjiar village, rota village, ladi village etc. (mainly situated near the slopes) Villages are situated far from each other, but not too far from Khajjiar ground. There are many apple orchards in Khajjiar area.

Khajjiar Lake and Ground

Location

Beautiful Khajjiar Lake and Ground: Set in the rolling green turf is a small lake. One gets out of the car to go to the lake but the ground seems to give way. The earth is 'spongy' due to dense growth of weed called 'vacha' over which dust has formed a thick layer of earth. No wilderness in Himachal is so easily accessible and beautiful. It is the magical paradise which quickly makes you realise that there is no place like this in the whole world. The magnificent of majestic 'deodar' is at its best here.

Monkey Point

Location

The highest point in Kasauli called Monkey point is just 4-km from the Kasauli bus stand. The Monkey Point commands an excellent view of the distant plains of Chandigarh region and the river Satluj, tracing a silvery trail through the scene. A small temple is also situated on the top of the hill, which is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. According to a legend, at the end of Ramayana when Lord Hanuman was returning from the Himalayas after obtaining Sanjivany Booty or the Magical Herb, his foot touched the hill and thus the top of hill is in a foot shape.

Maharana Pratap Sagar Lake (Pong Dam)

Location

It is made of Beas River. In 1960, a dam was built on the Beas river and this dam resulted in a huge Maharana Pratap Sagar Lake (once known as Pong Lake). This huge mass of water varies from 180 sq. km. to 400 sq. km. In 1983, the Sagar was declared a wildlife sanctuary and over 220 species of birds belonging to 54 families have been sighted over the waters and the fringing mud-banks - these include black-headed gulls, plovers, terns, ducks, water-fowl and egrets. The land portion of the sanctuary has barking deer, sambar, wild boars, nilgai, leopards and claw-less otters. 27 species and sub-species of fish belonging to six families have been recorded in the Sagar's waters.

Chander Nahan Lake

Location

Chandra Nahan Lake is situated near to the chansal peak gains much significance since Prabhar River originates from this perennial source of water. At an elevation of 4260 meters this placid lake presents an unbelievably mesmerizing spectacles to the onlookers. This dazzling spot where one can spent much time would be an unforgettable experience.

Machcciyal Lake

Location

6 km from the Hotel Uhl is this small but enchanting lake held sacred to Machendru Devta means the God of Fish. Fish are fed and worshipped here especially on Saturday and Tuesday. Fishing is strictly prohibited here. A fair in the month of April is held here every year. A beautiful bridge over Gugli Khadd, a small river, is situated here. Out flowing water of Uhl river from Bassi Power house meets into Gugli Khadd. Some beautiful temples of Machendru Devta are lying beside the lake with very old idols of God of Fish.

Highest Peaks

Location

The highest peaks of Jogindernagar are Billing peak (9510 feet), Winch Camp (8820 feet), Jhatingari (6,725 feet), Siqander Dhar (6010 feet), Banderi (5225 feet). However Winch Camp is the nearest (8 km from Jogindernagar). In Siqandar Dhar peak as well as Banderi some ancient forts are constructed by Rajas of that period. There is heavy snowfall over these mountains during winter.

Kareri Lake

Location

Kareri Lake is about 22kms from Kotwali Bazar it has a rest house for night halt. On way visit Kareri lake situated at the distance of 13kms. from rest house. Durbasa and Kali temples are located here. 22 kilometres from Dharamshala and at a height of 3250 metres, the lake is surrounded by green open meadows and forests of tall oak and pine.
