Kanha Museum

Location

Rani Durgavati Memorial and Museum

Location

Dedicated to the memory of the great Queen Durgavati, it is her memorial and museum, which houses a fine collection of sculptures, inscriptions and prehistoric relics.

Rani Durgavati Memorial and Museum was built as a tribute to the legendary Queen Durgavati in the year 1964. The museum houses impressive collection of ancient sculptures, rare manuscripts. There are 10th century statues of Gods and Goddesses in the museum. There is a separate section in the museum that is completely dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. You can see many photos and portraits related to Mahatma Gandhi.

Indore Museum

Location

Located on the Agra-Mumbai Road, Indore Museum houses finest artifacts from the prehistoric to the modern era. A visit to this museum provides oneself with a deep insight on the culture and history of the people of Indore.

The main attraction of this museum is the paramount collection of Parmar dynasty sculptures, which dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. This superb display of antiques consists of coins, arms and armours and beautifully decorated figures in stone.

Jivaji Rao Scindia Museum

Jivaji Rao Scindia was one among the eminent rulers of the Scindia reign and many of the marvelous structures in and around Gwalior are the contribution of this progressive ruler. Jivaji Rao Scindia Museum is a memorial to this legendary genius.

Situated in the majestic Jai Vilas Palace, the Scindia Museum is established in 1964. Controlled by a private trust, this museum works on all days except on Mondays and the time schedule is between 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.

Museum of Mankind (Tribal Habitat)

Location

Spread over a vast area of 200 acres of land, the Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (National Museum of Mankind) is located on the Shamla Hills. It is the only museum in the world to have a vivid collection of pre-historic painted rock shelters. Located in one among the pre-historic sites of India, this great anthropological Museum is a replica of the tribal life.

This museum of mankind is also renowned as the tribal habitat, where an open-air exhibition of contemporary tribal cultures and actual-size dwellings of typical tribal villages of Indian states are recreated. The habitat is open from 10 am to 6 pm every day expect on Mondays and national holidays.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (A Post Colonial Museum)

The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (National Museum of Mankind) is a unique Museum, spread over 200 acres of undulating land on the Shamla Hills on the Upper Lake front. It is situated in a prehistoric site and may be the only museum in the world strewn with numerous prehistoric painted rock shelters. It is a post colonial museum of communities rather than objects, dedicated to in situ revitalisation of local knowledge systems and life enhancing traditions rather than ex situ display of objects. It is engaged in recollection rather than collection.

Birla Museum

Baghella Museum Bandhavgarh

You can also get a glimpse of the stuffed body of Mohan. It was the first tiger that was found in the park, way back in 1951.
