Dedicated to the sun god, centuries old Surya temple is a popular attraction in Nalanda. It is situated just near to he University premises. Apart from the idols of so many gods and goddess, one can find Buddhist deities inside the temple premises.

The most attractive icon in the temple is the five feet high idol of Goddess Parvati. Sun worship, which is popularly called as the Chhath Puja held twice a year in "Vaishakha" and "Kartika" at Surya Temple with great enthusiasm. These festivals fall on April-May and October-November respectively. Since the temple preserves its ancient magnificence along with a serene ambiance, this temple grabs the attention of the pious and the vagabonds alike.
