The Chowrasta is the most happening place in Darjeeling. Located at the heart of the hilly town, this is the main shopping area and a main centre of commercial activities. Surrounded by roadside food stalls, curio shops, book stores and countless vendors selling artefacts, woollens and various collectibles along the street, Chowrasta is a paradise for shopaholics.
The street along which all these shops are lined up is more popularly known as the Mall. Besides shopping one can also go for a pony ride here. The temple of Mahakal is located on the hill top right at the centre of the Mall and Chowrasta. This region gives a feel of the Victorian era in Darjeeling.
There are benches all along the Chowrasta for people to sit and enjoy the views over a cup of Darjeeling tea. There is also a small open space auditorium here, where local rock bands often host performances.
