Koyna Dam and Reservoir: The Koyna Dam is one of the largest dams in Maharshhtra situated in Koyna Nagar in the western ghats between the towns of Chiplun and Karad. Completed in 1963, the dam has helped create a reservoir that is almost 70 kms long reaching all the way up to Mahableshwar and has resulted in the formation of the backwaters of Shivsagar Lake.

The dam is the main source of water to western Maharashtra and helps to produce cheap hydroelectric power. Sweet water fish can be found here in plently.

The project of Koyna has altogether four dams of which Koyna has the biggest catchment area.

One of the largest dam in Maharashtra is the Koyna Dam. The dam is situated in Koyna Nagar. It is placed in the western ghats and between Chiplun and Karad. The dam is the main source of water to western Maharashtra and also provides cheap hydroelectric power.

The building of the dam was completed in the year 1963. This dam is responsible for the backwaters of Shivsagar Lake which is huge with a length of around 50 km!

The project of Koyna comprises of four dams of which the Koyna dam has the biggest catchment area. The dam is charged, with the sudden bates of earthquakes in the recent past.
