Great Stupa

Location

The great stupa at Nalanda is the end result of seven consecutive accretions. Flanked by flight of steps and terraces, beautiful sculpture and votive stupas the great stupa offers a glance of the past splendor of Nalanda.

One can see seven layers of constructions in a row that protects the original stupa, which appears to be diminutive and masked deep within. The corner looms and the neighboring stupas are ornamented with stretch of niches portraying Bodhisattvas, Buddha, and other important events of Buddha’s life. A flight of stairs paves the way to the top that gives an enhanced view of the majestic university.
