Fort Calcutta

Location

Being ruled by the Nawabs and also being the capital for a long duration has led to construction of various monuments in the town of Faizabad. The Fort Calcutta was constructed by Shuja-ud-Daula after he was defeated in the war at Buxar in 1764 by the British. The monuments display that the ruler had not lost any hold over his area and was only defeated, not destroyed. The Nawab and his wife resided inside the fort till their death.

The Fort walls are made out local clay and impart a peculiar look to the monument. The Fort itself displays an architectural inclination towards the Mughal style of construction.
