Alangudi, also known as Gurusthal (abode of Guru - Jupiter), is a picturesque and serene village near to the temple town of Kumbakonam. The prime attraction in this village is the temple dedicated to planet Jupiter (Guru).
It is believed that people with malignant influences from the planet Jupiter have to visit this temple and offer prayers to eliminate the bad effects and to gain prosperity. Lord Shiva in the form of Dakshinamoorthy is placed as the main deity in this temple. The temple houses idols of all planets, apart from Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha.
