Bibeksar Sahib

Location

In front of the Gurdwara Ramsar is this tank, the foundation of which was laid by Guru Hargobind in 1622. Nearby was also a beautiful garden where the Guru used to come for recreation. He usually took rest on the edge of the tank where now stands the Gurdwara Bibeksar. Sometimes, he held his meetings here in the evening. Here, the Guru organized his followers on military lines.

Durgiana Temple

Location

Shri Lakshami Narain Mandir, popularly known as the Durgiana Mandir, situated outside the Hathi Gate, Amritsar, is modelled on the pattern of the Golden Temple. It was founded in 1922 through the joint efforts of Nathu Mal Rangwala and Gur Sahai Mal. The temple stands in the middle of a tank, about 162 metres long and 130 metres wide. A bridge about 76 metres long and 5.6 metres wide leads to it. The idols of Lakshami and Narain stand in the central structure along with those of Rama and Sita and Radha and Krishna, installed on the left and right of it. There also exist Sant Tulsi Das Mandir, Sat Narain Mandir, Hanuman Mandir, Radhe Shayam Mandir and a Shivala.

Ber Baba Buddha

Location

There is a ber-tree on the northern pavement of the holy tank around the Hari Mandir. Under it, the great devotee Baba Buddha used to sit and supervise the work of the labour employed for excavating the tank and constructing the temple.

Sikh religion gave birth to so many pious and saintly people and Baba Buddha was one of such prominent figure, who adorns a remarkable position in the entire history of this sacred faith. It is believed that this sage was authorized with the construction of the Sarovar in the premises of the Golden temple. It is also believed that Baba Buddha used to sit under a tree, which is still preserved in the temple. This tree, which is called beri in the local language is famed as the Ber Baba Buddha, which literally means the Baba Buddha’s tree.

Langudi Hills

Location

Langudi Hill is a very old Buddhist site in Jajpur, in the state of Orissa. A tiny hill that runs north to south is devoid of shrubbery. The majestic river Kelua rambles across the hills and the scenic scenery of a River flowing against the backdrop of hills and plains is really fantastic.

Buddhist Complex

Location

A sprawling Buddhist complex has been excavated from Udayagiri in Orissa. The vestiges of the complex include brick monasteries, brick stupas, various sculptures and ancient inscriptions, which are truly worth seeing and experiencing.

The largest Buddhist Complex in Udayagiri has gained its significance after the recent excavations, which exposed that the complex was formerly known as Madhavapura Mahavihara. The whole area was set up at the backdrop of a large hill and the place is now acquired the status of the earliest Buddhists establishments in the world.

Leaning Temple of Huma

Location

Famous as the abode of Lord Siva, Huma contains the lone leaning temple of Orissa and also famous as a scenic spot of great excellence. The river Mahanadi flowing close by abounds in fish (Kudo fish) which are never caught. The popular belief is that they belong to Lord Vimaleswar. Facility for cruising in the river by country boat is available for a nominal price.

Nrusimhanath Temple

Location

165 km: The temple of Vidala-Nrusimha stands at the foot of the picturesque Gandhamardan hills. On the other slope of this hill are the famous Harisankar temple and the captivating waterfalls. It gained a place in history in the early part of Christian Era being famous as 'Haranapapa' (destroyer of Sins) among the ancient pilgrims. In his account Hiuen T'sang referred to this place as Po-lo-mo-lo-ki-li or Parimalagiri which was a renowned seat of Buddhist culture. The ruins found on the plateau at the hill/top, about sixteen km long, speak volumes in mute voice.

Hanuman Batika

Location

The Garden located in the heart of Rourkela, has a 75-feet tall standing statue of Hanuman, monkey devotee of Rama. The statue designed by Sri Laxmana Swami has become an icon of the city. The garden on 13 acres of land has a beautiful temple complex. There are many shrines- Bata Mangala Mandira, Binayaka Mandira and Manas Parayana Sharala at the entrance and Santoshi Ma Mandira, Bruhat Sivalinga Mandira, Ram Daravar, Hanumanji Mandira, Ma Laxmi Mandira, Jagannath Mandira are some of them. The garden with all the temples has become a place of pilgrimage.
