St Andrews Church

St. Andrew's church was started to be built in 1864, and was completed in 1866. This Scottish Presbyterian Church was originally built for the use of Scottish officers, their families, and a few other laymen. This congregation has a long history as well as a well deserved reputation of serving the community. In1881, an impressive pipe organ was installed. The quality of the music that can be played using this instrument is remarkable. In 1891, a clock tower was added to the church. It is possible to visit this historic building that is in the area close to Alleppey.

Sree Nagaraja Temple

The Sree Nagaraja Temple is located in the region surrounding Alleppey. This unusual temple is a serpent shrine that is under the patronage of a brahman family that is even headed by a priestess. The ancient shrine is dedicated to the Serpent God Nagaraja. It is one of the most important centers of snake worship in all of Kerala. It is the focus of a pilgrimage for numerous people every year. The temple is encircled by 16 acres of beautiful, dense green forest. Once every month, the 'Sarpakalam Pattu' ritual is conducted .

Edathua Church

The Edathua Church was established in 1810 on the banks of the river Pamba. It was modeled after the medieval churches of Europe. The patron saint of this church is St. George. This Catholic saint is known for being especially good at helping to heal mental disorders and other ailments. As a result, numerous people from all of South India make the pilgrimage to this church to seek the blessing of St. George. Every year, an enormous festival is held to celebrate St. George. A remarkable feast of gluttonous proportions is a large part of the festival that lasts for eleven days.

Chavara Bhavan

The birth place of the blessed Kurikose Elias Chavara is found near Alleppey. This Catholic saint has a church that is built over the traditional sight of his birth to protect it. Meditation is encouraged at this church. Mass and the Novena Prayer are held every Saturday at 6:00 am, 7:30 am, 8:45 am, 10:00 am, and 4:30 pm. The solemn feast of Blessed Chavara is celebrated every year on January 3rd, and the novena preparation starts on December 26. At this time, Holy Mass is held at 4:30 followed by novena.

Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple

Located just 14 kilometers away from Alleppey is the Amabalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple. This temple is one of the few temples in Kerala that have survived time. Sri. Devanarayan, the ruler of Chempakasherri built sometime during 15-17 AD. Later on, the city of Chembakasherri came to be known as Amabalapuzha which was then even later changed to Alleppey. Architecturally speaking, the Amabalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple was built in the style that is typically seen in the state of Kerala.

Siddhi Vinayak Ganapati Temple

Location

Siddhi Vinayak temple near Harnai is located in Dapoli town. It is an ancient famous temple built around Madhavarao Peshwa period in 18th century with the prime deity as the Lord Ganesh and the Ganesh idol made out of marble is very attractive.

Siddhi Vinayak temple is placed on a high mount, about 250 steps to be covered to reach the temple premises. It encloses a stone staircase and a big hall with many pillars and a dome. A lake in front of the temple adds its attraction.

Wakali Unavre Spring

Location

Wakali Unavre Springs are hot water springs. The springs are believed to have medicinal properties that help cure body ailments. The springs also have religious significance.

Many tourists and local people visit the Wakali Unavre Spring. This is a hot spring in which you can take a pleasant dip. Many legendary stories are associated with this spring. The spring is assumed to have a medicinal or magical power to cure many body ailments. It has religious importance as well.

Murud

Location

Murud is a beach village situated south of Harnai Fort. The village is known for its ancient 18th Century Goddess Durgadevi temple. The temple has 28 pillars with beautiful carvings on it. A large bell hangs on the left side of the entrance. The bell was brought by Chimaji Appa the great Maratha warrior after winning the battle at Vasai. He took the bell from one of the churches.

Murud also has a small lake with a Ganpati idol in the middle of it. In summer when the water level falls or the pond becomes almost dry devotees visit the idol and offer their prayers.

Dapoli

Location

Dapoli is nearest town to Harnai and home to a variety of migratory birds and animals. Dapoli is mainly famous for the 18th century Siddhi Vinayak Ganpati temple built during the period of Madhavrao Peshwa. The main deity is Shri Siddhi Vinayak, the remover of obstacles. The temple is mounted on a hill with 250 stone steps leading up to it. The temple has a big hall with a number of pillars and a round dome. There is also a lake in front of the temple. Dapoli is most well known for its Alphonso mangoes.
