Dehing Satra

Location

The ruins that are seen on the banks of the Dehing River under Larua mouza in present Dibrugarh, was a very famous satra during the rule of the Ahom king Rajeswar Singha. During the famous Moamoria revolution, the satra received royal support from Rajeswar Singha and also from a number of other kings like Lakhi Singha and Gaurinath Singha.

Raidurga Fort

Location

Raidurga Fort is a primeval structure, which had a considerable role in the history of the Vijayanagar Empire. The impregnable fort has many small forts and temples. The shrines dedicated to Narashimhaswamy, Hanuman, Prasanna Venkatesvara, Jambukeswara, Kanyakaparameswari and Elamma are the prominent ones. Though now mostly in ruins, the fort would take you back to the royal splendor. It also offers a breathtaking view of the town below.

Penukonda Fort

Location

Penukonda Fort is a colossal structure, whose each and every stone boasts of the royalty of the erstwhile era. Penukonda is a small town in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. In the ancient times, it used to serve as the second capital to the Vijayanagar kings. Perched atop the hill, the fort offers a spectacular view of the town below. It was named after its native region. Located at a distance of 70 km from Anantapur, the Penukonda Fort can be found on the Kurnool-Bangalore Road.

Gooty Fort

Location

Gooty is a small town, known for embracing one of the oldest forts of Andhra Pradesh. At a distance of 52 kms from Anantapur city, the fort is a prime attraction for tourists. Above the plains in Gooty, the impregnable fort is perched at a height of 300 meters amidst hills. The Fort has been granted the title of 'World Heritage Site' by UNESCO. The massive fort complex houses at least fifteen forts in it. Gooty Fort's castle has been erected on the westernmost loop of the hummocks.

Ita Fort

Location

Itanagar derives its name from the Ita fort which is located right at the center of the capital complex in Papum Pare district. The fort dates back to the Ahom rulers who constructed it somewhere between 14th and 15th century. The imposing but highly irregular fort which has been constructed with the help of more than 8 million bricks stand guardian to the capital city. The figures are immaterial today but still it is interesting to know that almost 45,000 man days were utilised to build this fort which has 3 gates, the Eastern, the Western and the Southern Gates.

Bhismaknagar Fort

Location

The Bhismaknagar Fort is a major sightseeing point in Arunachal Pradesh. The fort was built in the 8th century BC. It is the oldest of all the archaeological sites constructed in the area. This fort in the Dibang Valley district is regarded sacred by the Idu Mishims. It symbolizes the glory of the past. Built with clay bricks and adorned with pottery, the fort was constructed in the 4th century.

Ujjayanta Palace

Location

Once the royal abode of Maharaja Rahda Kishore Manikya, Ujjayanta Palace is located in the capital city Agartala. He built it in the 19th century by spending 10 lakh rupees. Sprawling over an area of 1 sq km, it is a two storied establishment with lush green gardens. It is a combination of different styles of architecture. It has three beautiful domes, the central one being 86' high. The floor is made attractive with fine tiles, the ceilings is dedicated to magnificent wooden work and the impressively crafted doors show the skill of the then craftsmen. Presently the palace is an Assembly House of Tripura.

Kunjaban Palace

Location

The Kunjaban Palace (formerly known as the Pushbanta Palace) constructed in 1927 for the King Birendra Kishore Manikya (retreat/ recreation Palace) is a marvelous monument which reflects the rich and artistic taste of the erstwhile ruler. The Palace was handed over to the Government after dissolution of the monarch state into Republic India and is presently being utilised as the official residence of the Governor of the State of Tripura.
