Red Hill

Location

Manipur is a mesmerising destination with a lot of tourist attractions, Red Hill being one of them. It is a hillock holding sheer historic importance. This place witnessed and braved a fierce battle which was fought between the British and the Japanese army during World War II. The local people consider it as a sacred spot. It is located on Tiddim Road, which is around 16 km from Imphal, the capital city of Manipur. This hillock has a monument, which was erected in the memory of the Japanese Martyrs. They sacrificed their lives in this disastrous war.

War Cemetery

Location

Located amidst scenic settings the Kohima war cemetery is a memorial built in honor of those officers and soldiers killed during World War II. Originally named Garrison Hill, its design comprises of a series of terraces with enchanting stone steps. There are 1421 slabs erected in memory of martyrs killed in the battle of Kohima, each bearing a bronze plaque with an apt epitaph. Commonwealth War Graves Commission oversees the cemetery. The famous engravings of “When you go home, tell them of us, and say: ‘For your tomorrow, we gave our today’ tells of the trauma and the pain suffered by thousands of comrades during the war.

Warangal Fort

Location

Warangal Fort, constructed during the legendary Kaktiya period in the 13th century, is a wonderful tourist spot. The grandeur Fort with four mammoth Sanchi style gateways at the entrance is a fine example of South Indian architecture. The fort consisting of two walls and the outer wall carries the credit of being the largest of this type in Indian region. The Fort is adorned with a temple in its middle and is renowned for its sculptures.

War Memorial

Location

A memorial, also known as ‘Victory at Sea’, dedicated to the great soldiers who sacrificed their lives to the cause of national integrity and border protection, renowned as War memorial is located in Vizag on the left of the beach road and facing the submarine museum.

This memorial is established to commemorate the victory on 1971 at the sea Indo Pak war. Many war related materials are displayed here, including a fighter plane, missiles, few bombs and a tank.

Bojjana Konda

Location

Bojjanna Konda, a Buddhist excavation site, is renowned as Buddhist heritage spot in Visakhapatnam, dating back to 2000 years. It is pretty placed on a mount at Sankaram village near Anakapalle in Vizag.

Bhavi Konda, Thotla Konda, Bojjana Konda, and Salihundam located around Visakhapatnam were places of Buddhist excavations. These were hamlets of Buddhism during the second century AD. Excavation during 1906 in these places brought out many Buddhist monuments such as stupas and chaityas. It is believed that some of the corporal remnants of the Buddha were conserved at these sacred Buddhist places.

The visitor is blessed with the view of architectural remnants of the Buddhist period dated from 200 BC to 700 AD, one of the earliest of its class in South India.
