Dariya Daulat Baug

Location

Dariya Daulat Bagh is an Indo-Muslim structure built of Teak. It is the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan. This monument was built in the year 1784.

This wooden palace is set among groomed lawns and flowerbeds. It looks modest from outside. This is because the most part of the palace is hidden from sight by green shades.

The rich paintings on the walls and the elaborate interiors leaves the visitor enraptured.

Captain Bailey's Dungeon

Location

Captain Bailey’s Dungeon is a fortress with measurements of 30.5m x 12.2m built of brick and mortar. On a lifted platform near the fort wall are the fortress where Tipu's prisoners of war were imprisioned. In the underground of the prison hooks on the walls on to which the prisoners hands were chained can be seen.

The fortress was named after Colonel Bailey who passed away here in 1780 A.D. During the military blockade at Srirangapatnam a cannon rolled back piercing the ceiling and fell into the dungeon which can still be seen here.

Pandavpura

Location

Pandavpura was named after the Pandavas. Myth has it that the Pandavas had halted in this town for some time during their exile. Mother Kunti of Pandavas liked the hillock and she made it her favourite getaway.

During India’s pre-independence period the town was named as French Rocks. The town is located in the locality of two rocky hills.

Pandavapura town is encircled by attractive paddy and sugar cane fields. Agriculture is the chief business of the town. Other than agricultural products, one can also find handiworks and ayurvedic products.

Location

The Grange is a castle built in 1820 by the then collector M D Cockburn and is one of the oldest architectural marvels that are seen in Yercaud. This is the first commercial plantation area for coffee, oranges and apples in Yercaud.

Fort St George is an important and marvelous landmark in Chennai. In Tamil Nadu political leaders aim to reach this Fort, as the Secretariat and Legislative Assembly are housed here. This beautiful edifice is situated on the eastern side of the city, on the shores of the Bay of Bengal. The British East India Company, under the direct supervision of Andrew Cogon, built it in 1640 AD. This place achieved its name from Saint George, the patron saint of England. The fort houses Saint Mary's Church and fort museum.

Prakasam Salai

Location

Opposite Parry's Corner, one of the Chennai milestones built in 1795, it is an impressive stylish building in Indo-Saracenic style with grandeur in red bricks. Prakasam Salai, earlier known as Popham's Broadway, a distance off George Town, has a cluster of old shrines that include Kandaswamy Koil, Tucker's Church, a Wesleyan Chapel and the Anderson's Church. The architectural marvelous and archeological values are appreciated here. This has grown to a hot spot for tourism.

Aligarh Fort

Location

Aligarh Fort: The old fort dates as far back as 1194. During the collapse of the Mughal Empire, the region was faught for by the Afgans, Jats, Marathas and the Rohillas. Renamed Aligarh, meaning 'high fort' in 1776, it fell to the British in 1803 despite French support to its ruler, Scindia.
