Lachen, inhabited by Tibetan and Bhutia communities, is situated on the North Sikkim Highway, near the town of Thangu. It is a gateway to the Gurudongmar Lake and the Chopta Valley.
The Lachen Monastery is the major attraction of the town constructed in 1806. The monastery follows the Nyingma sect of Buddhism.
The Cho-Lhamu Lake is situated nearby and can be visited by taking prior permission from the governing authority. The Green Lake, another attraction in Lachen, can also be reached by trekking from Lachen.
The Rangit Water World is situated at a distance of 26 km from the town of Ravangla. It lies near a dam, which is a hydroelectric project built across the Rangit river. This place is a popular for activities like rafting, fishing, swimming and family picnics.
The village of Kewzing is situated 8 km away from the town of Ravangla. The village is an ideal location for experiencing the local rural life of Sikkim. The families here allow travellers to stay with them, providing an experience of the renowned Sikkimese hospitability. The famous Bonn Monastery is also located at a short distance from this village. 2 km from the Kewzing Bazaar, lies the Mangbrue Gompa, which follows the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism.
Tinkitam is a small village situated 6 km away from the town of Ravangla. The place is mainly famous for being the home of the Indian soccer celebrity, Baichung Bhutia. The surroundings of this village are home to rare species of orchids and Paphiopedilum Faireanum, popularly known as ladies slipper. The orchids present near this village are are terrestrial orchids that bloom during the months of October and November. At a short distance from this village, lie the renowned Temi Tea Gardens, the only tea estate of Sikkim.
Singhik Village is around 12 km away from the Mangan town and lies on the north Sikkim Highway. The village is at an elevation of more than 5,200 ft and provides amazing views of the Kanchenjunga Mountain and Mt. Siniolchu. An ancient Singhik Monastery, situated in the Singhik village, is also popular. There are many mountain streams, forest hills and several trails nearby the ridges of the surrounding hills.
Kaluk is another famous district of Sikkim destination, which is located 26 km from Pelling and is prominently recognised for Bersay Rhadodendron Sanctuary. This area is also known for it’s infinite natural resources and is also considered as a haven for nature lovers. The district is surrounded by small villages consisting of the Lepcha tribes.
Mayong in Assamese district, is located about 20 km from Pelling. Situated on the banks of Brahmaputra River, this town is approximately 40 km from Guwahati. This district was once known for it’s supernatural stories and black magic. It was said to be the Indian capital of black magic and witchcraft during the ancient medieval times.
The Mayong district is included in various mythological epic books; one of them being the Mahabharat. Mayong central museum and emporium is home to various archaeological artefacts found during the year while some are yet to be discovered.
Darap Subba Village is located 6 km away from Pelling on the way to Yuksum. This palace in inhabited mainly by people from Limboo Community and a small number of families from mixed communities like Bhutias, Chettris, Tamangs, Rais, Gurungs and Lepchas.
Legship, a small hamlet close to Pelling connects Geyzing, Pelling and Yuksum to other cities of the state. Comprising of a small market area, this village lies on the banks of Kalez River and Rangeet River and is approximately 26 km away from Pelling. Legship is known for a beautiful Rangeet River dam, which is a hydro power Dam built on this river. The Rangeet River dam is on the right side of the main river, between rocky cliffs.
