Dhemaji

State

Dhemaji, situated in the foothills of Eastern Himalayas, is one of the remote areas located towards eastern-most part of the state. The town is located at the confluence of rivers that flow down into Brahmaputra River, which has various tributaries, passing through the place. The name Dhemaji is derived from two Assamese words, 'dhal' which means flood and 'dhemali' that refers to play. This is a flood-prone area, known for a variety of fishes.

By Air: Lilabari Airport near North Lakhimpur is the closest airport, about 66 km from Dhemaji.

By Rail: The local rail station at Dhemaji town is named Murkong Selek rail station, connected to Rangiya Junction which is connected to rest of the country.

By Road: The National Highway 52 passes through Dhemaji District. From Guwahati, Dhemaji is 428 km and about 10 hours drive away.
