The Sheesh Mahal (House of Mirrors) conveys the whimsical attitude of the erstwhile rulers through a very bold and arrogant display. The king was obviously a chess lover and loved to play it using real pieces. Thus we have a colossal chess board carved out in the courtyard. Real men were posted as the respective pieces and the king and his ministers would convey the moves through a messenger, all this sitting right inside the cozy comforts afforded by the Sheesh Mahal. Well some good sense used to prevent them from ordering the killed piece to be physically eliminated.
