Scorpion's Sting (Vinchu Kata)

Location

Scorpion’s Sting, also known as Vinchu Kata, is a long and narrow fortified spur in the region of the Lohagarh fort which extends westwards of the Lonawala. This is a finger styled projection of fissure of Lava and the name scorpion’s sting due to its natural shape. The attractive beauty of the pinnacle of this hilly terrain is worth visiting.

This trail is very fascinating for the nature lovers and trekkers. From this peak one can descend towards the Visapur fort. The peak offers long views of surrounding plains and lush green sceneries of the forests.

Kunkeshwar Beach

Radhanagari Dam

Location

Radhanagari Dam is a century old dam built by the Kolhapur ruler Shahu Maharaj and is constructed across Bhogawati River. This dam is used primarily for hydro-electricity power generation and also for irrigation purposes.

The dam is located at a scenic surroundings in the backdrop of thick forest covers. The dam site is a habitat for many birds flora and many visitors reach here to see the spectacular bird species.

Rankala Lake

Location

Rankala Lake is a serene lake located perfectly in a picturesque backdrop in Kolhapur. Local populace believes that the lake is directly linked to a well in the Fort of Panhala. The lake was constructed by the Kolhapur Chathrapatis (Emperors). This historical lake has a temple nearby with a mammoth structure of Nandi, the chariot of Lord Shiva.

Kuda Caves

Location

A small village Kuda, famous for the Buddhist caves, is placed at the fabulous Janjeera hills near Kolad at a height of 150 to 200 feet above the sea level. These rock cut caves are classic example of Buddhist cave art and amazing for their architectural excellence. These caves have two levels and the individual blocks are smaller and are on the upper levels. The inscriptions on the caves are the preaching of Buddha and his disciples. The interiors of the caves are carved with stupas and a rock carved image of an elephant as the janitor is inscribed on the front gate of the caves.

Dholwal Dam
