Murud Beach

Location

One among the popular beaches of Maharashtra, 1.75 km long Murud beach looks like a festooned ornament. The vast expansion of white sandy beach and the crystal clear bluish water Murud is a delight for water enthusiasts. Fenced by the green palm trees, this pristine beach arose the imagination of any visitor.

Though the weather is warm here, the gentle sea breeze cools down the atmosphere. Watching the sun rises through the mountains to the east is a remarkable sight and when the sun rises, the silvery sands began to glow for the whole day. Sunset in the back ground of the brilliant forts are also very fabulous.

Kanheri Caves

Location

Kanheri caves are located well inside the thick forest area of Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali. These caves numbering about 109 built during the Maurya and Kushana period dates back to 2nd century BC to 9th century. These caves were served as Buddhist Viharas. These were used for meditation, study and living by Buddhist monks and turned to monasteries by 3rd century.

Each of this caves are adorned with stone plinth used as bed and stupa with massive huge pillars. The inscriptions based on Buddha’s life and preaching are worth for a visit. Kanheri, literally means black in color, is located at a height of about 1500 feet from sea level and is a perfect place to have the panoramic view of down city and Arabian Sea.

Mahakali Caves

Location

Mahakali Caves, also known earlier as Kondivita Caves, are located between Aarey Milk colony and Borivali National park in Mumbai. These are rock cut caves, carved out of solid hard rocks, with color of black basalt and are located at scenic picturesque Udayagiri hills. These caves, which were served as Buddhist monasteries, date back to two thousand years.

Chowpatty Beach

Location

A serene scenic beach crowning the Mumbai, Chowpatty beach is famed for the immersion of Ganesh idols at the penultimate day of the Ganesh Chathurthi festival. This beach located at the one end of Marine drive is considered as a holy place, where many Hindu rituals like thread tying events are performed. One can get the lively view of religious rituals and ceremonies in this beautiful beach.

Charlotte Lake

Location

Charlotte Lake is the main source of drinking water for the town. Lake Charlotte sports a dam at one end and temple at the other. It is a popular picnic spot and looks good in the monsoon season but dries up in the summer. Near the dam is the main Hindu temple of Matheran, the Pisarnath Mandir.

Charlotte Lake, also known as Sharlott Lake is a serene scenic spot in Matheran and is the prime source of drinking water in the Matheran region. An ancient temple Pisarnath temple is located at the right of the lake and two beautiful picnic spots Louisa point and Echo point are placed at the left of the lake. The lake location is rich in panoramic sceneries and lusting greeneries.

Alexander Point

Location

This point is 1km to north of Matheran. You can see Ulhas river and the Chouk valley from here.

Alexander Point is one of the great scenic locations in Matheran and is located on the side of Madhavji road. On the backdrop of jungle greeneries, the point offers grandeur picturesque views of Palasdari Lake, Rambaug Point, Garbut Point, Chowk point and downhill village of Borgaon.

Hart Point

Location
