Thadlaskein Lake (Sajar Nangli lake)

Location

56 kms from Shillong was according to legend dug by ends of bows by members of U Sajiar Niangli`s clan, a rebel general of the Jaintia Raja.

This lake at Jowai of Meghalaya has a great history behind its birth. The lake is believed to be dug out by people belonging to 290 tribes of U Sajjar Niangli, who was the rebel general of Jaintia Raja, with the bow ends to mark their journey of escape from the hostile nature.

Thangkharang Park and Kynrem Waterfalls

Location

The scenic Thangkharang Park is around 12 kilometers from Cherrapunjee. This is a must see spot as it overlooks the vast plains of Bangladesh. The views from the hilltop are beautiful and criss-crossed plains with wide rivers on their final leg to their journey to the sea are visible from here. The Thangkharang Park is managed by the state Forest Department. The Kynrem Falls can be viewed from across the park. The falls are about 1000 feet in height and qualify for being the highest falls in the state.

Seven Sister Waterfall

Location

High on beauty quotient, Seven Sister Waterfall is a famous waterfall in Meghalaya. Meghalaya is a land blessed with various waterfalls such as Bishop and Beadon falls, Elephant Falls, Spread Eagle Falls, Sweet Falls, Crinoline Falls and many more, but Seven Sister Waterfall has a unique charm to it. During good season one can seven different falls side-by-side cascading the cliff, which gives the waterfall its name. It is a seven segmented waterfall that overlooks Bangladesh.

Nohkalikai Waterfalls

Location

Nohkalikai Waterfalls is the fourth longest waterfall in the world. It is located near Cherrapunjee, the place which receives the highest rainfall in the world. This waterfall towers to a height of 1100 feet (335 m). It is a major tourist attraction in Meghalaya. The water drops from a great height into a deep gorge and the sight is simply awe-inspiring.
The Nohkalikai Falls is supposed to be the world's fourth highest waterfall and it can be viewed only during the monsoon season. This waterfall is situated at a distance of about 5 km away from Cherrapunji.The waterfall starts off as a clear bubbling stream and turns into a majestic waterfall gushing down the rocky precipice into a deep gorge.

Limestone Cave / Mawsmai Caves

Location

Caving is an art which can be best experienced in the mystic Mawsmai Caves of Meghalaya. These Caves are fast becoming a hot tourists destination offering great adventure opportunity to the tourists. The caves are located near Cherrapunjee and are made of limestone. The emotion of thrill heightens as you enter the cave. The entrance has a narrow vertical opening and is well lit. As you move further, you will notice dripping of water from the cave roofs and the formation of stalactites and stalagmites, a wonderful phenomena specially found in limestone caves. The conspicuous pillars formed due to the joining of the roof and the floor are an awe-inspiring creativity of the creator of this world.

Dainthlen Waterfalls

Location

The Dainthlen Waterfalls are on the way to Cherrapunjee. The drive to Dainthlen itself is a treat to the eyes as it has vast grasslands and stretches of rock formations. Popular as a picnic spot, tourists can also get a peek into village life at the Rangjyrthei village that is on the other side of the falls. The Dainthlen waterfalls are one of the ideal places for picnics and the drive to this place is very pleasant with the scenic beauty around. There is a village nearby Rangjyrthei, which should not be missed.
