Rakchham

Location

At an altitude of 2900 m, Rakchham is attractive because of its beautiful location at the banks of river Baspa. Rakchham itself means stone (Rak) bridge (Chham). Its name has been derived from 'Rak' a stone and 'Chham' a bridge. The location of the village is striking. It is located on the right bank of the Baspa river.

Morang

Location

Morang is a small village located on the left bank of river Satluj. The highlights of this village is predominantly its location. You reach it passing through apricot orchards. Also worthseeing are the three structures dedicated to the local goddess Urmig. The ark of the deity is usually placed in the fort, however once on an auspicious day, the ark is taken to these structures. The ark itself has got 18 'mukh' representing the 18 days of the great epic Mahabharat. The 'mukhs' are made of silver, gold and brass.

Chitkul

Location

Chitkul (3450) is the last village of the Valley and beyond lies Tibet. The area is well known for its saffron farms and the Baspa river is an excellent place for angling for trout. The Hotel shrikhand acts as the perfect base to visit the enchanting valley.

Location

Just 15-km from Kasauli on the National Highway No.22, Dharampur is situated. Amidst the healthy air of the fragrant pines, Dharampur has one of the best hospitals in India for the cure of tuberculosis. It is also connected by Kalka-Shimla railway line.

It is a village situated 7 kms. from Indora on the meeting point of the Beas and the Choch rivers. There is an old temple, built in Mughal style, housing 6 feet long and 5 feet round 'Shivalinga' The 'Linga' here is of its own kind not found anywhere in the world.

117 km from Kalpa. In Hangrang Valley is the largest village above sea level. It is also famous for Nako Lake which has boating facilities in summer and during winter its frozen surface is used for ice skating. Buddhist monastery is located here.

26 km from Powari, the inner border is located here beyond which foreigners require permit to travel upto Tabo. From this point the famous Kinner Kailash Parikarama Trek starts touching Morang, Thangi and Kunocharang villages and entering Chitkul village in Sangla Valley.

Just 18 km from Powari on NH-22 is famous for its vineyards and local wine 'Angoori' made from grapes. It is also called 'Rirang'. It is another popular village at a distance of 14 kms. from Morang, the tehsil headquarters and situated between the village of 'Purbani' and 'Rispa' is known for grapes, orchards and the alcohol distilled from grapes (angoori).
