Mahad

Location

Mahad, about 22 kms from Raigad, lies on the banks of the river Savitiri. Mahad has one of the Ashta Vinayak shrines of the state- the holy shrine of Shri Varad Vinayak Temple with a holy pond and a Gomukh. The temple has an eternal lamp burning here since 1892 AD.

Mahad is also famous for water agitation started under leadership of Babasaheb Ambedkar. A Kranti Stambh has been put up in memory of this agitataion.

Gandhar Pale, near Mahad, has many caves of Buddhist period.

The large Golden Pagoda is the central theme of Dhammagiri and serves as a landmark for Igatpuri On the outskirts of the village is a “matt” (house of saints) called “Vipassana”. Kashipur

Kashipur was known as Govishan during the time of Harsha (606-647 AD). The ruins of a large settlement of those days are still seen near the city. Kashipur is named after Kashinath Adhikari, the founder of township and one of the officers of the Chand rulers of the Kumaon in the middle age. Girital and Drona Sagar are well known spots and are associated with the story of Pandvas. Today Kashipur is an important industrial township. The Chaiti mela is the best-known fair of Kashipur. In autumn and after monsoon one can see the snow clad peaks of Trishul and it's surrounding.

14 kms. away from Muni-ki-Reti at an altitude of 1,129 m lies this capital of the former king of Garhwal.Until a few years ago it was the headquarter of the District Tehri Garhwal, but now the New Tehri Town is the headquarter. Here, the palace of the Tehri Raja, is situated amidst a forest. Situated on the main Rishikesh-Gangotri-Yamunotri route, Narendra Nagar offers a fine view of the Ganga and the beautiful Doon Valley. The sun set view from here is particularly attractive. Hotels and the P.W.D. Inspection House offer accommodation.

Khirsu

Location

Located 19 kms. away from Pauri at an altitude of 1700 m, Khirsu is a peaceful spot, free from pollution. The snow covered mountains of Khirsu offers a panoramic view of the central Himalayas and attracts a large number of tourists. From here one can get a clear view of many named and unnamed peaks. The tranquility of the adjoining thick Oak and Deodar forests and people orchards, is broken only by chirping of birds. The ancient temple of Ghandiyal Devta in the vicinity is well worth a visit. Berinag

Location

A small township facing the glorious snow clad pieces of Himalayas. Berinag is situated at a distance of 102 Km from Pithoragarh at an elevation of 1720 meters. Snake Temples, Tripura Devi Temple, Cave Temple of Koteshwar, Tea Gardens of Chaukori etc are places of worth seing. About one Km uphill to the south of Berinag proper in a romantic setting flanked in the north by a cluster of trees and to the further south by a ravine, is the location of the famous snake temple which is dedicated to one of several manifestations of Lord Vishnu.
