La Marteniere is soldier-architect Claud Martin's dream palace. Martin who established educational institutions in his hometown, Lyon and in Calcutta intended La Martiniere to be a seat of secular learning. But the school admitted students of European origin only, until India's independence.

Pantnagar - Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology G.B. University is the first ever-agricultural university of India. It was inaugurated by the first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on the 17th of November 1960 as the Uttar Pradesh Agricultural University (UPAU). Later the name was changed to Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in 1972 to memorialize the great freedom fighter Govind Ballabh Pant. It is located at a distance of 5km from Rudrapur.
One of Dalai Lama’s initiatives in social work was setting up of the Tibetan Homes Foundation. This foundation is adjacent to the Tibetan Buddhist temple and provides refuge and shelter to hundreds of Tibetan refugee children. One of the main aims of this foundation is to impart education to these children.
