Subrahmanya Temple in Thiruchendur is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Muruga set up on the background of serene and soft sand sea shore. Mythological stories narrate the killing of Surapadman, a demon by Lord Muruga in this place. Skanda Sashti is a famous festival day in this temple and an enactment of the demon’s killing Soorasamharam is performed at this temple.
The temple walls and the surroundings have Inscriptions of King Ukkira Pandian and other kings ruled over this region. The Lord of this temple is known for centuries and the epic works Tiruppugazh by Arunagirinathar and Tirumurugatruppadai by Nakkeerar are based on the Lord Muruga of this temple. This temple is visted by thousands of devotees from all over the world every year.
Brahmothsavam(February – March), 10 days Vasanthothsavam (April – May), 12 days Visaka Visakam (May – June) and Skandha Sashti (October – November) are celebrated in this temple with devotion and festivities. A scared well known as Naazhi Kinaru, located outside the temple, is inviting and the devotees visit this temple in general take bath with the water of this well.
