Sringapuram Shiva Temple

Location

Sringapuram Shiva Temple is a famous Hindu religious place in the close proximity of Kodungallur. The Shiva idol in this temple was believed to be installed by Sage Rishyashringa and hence the name Sringapuram (land of Sringa). This is one of the temples wherein Shiva is placed alone without Goddess Parvati.

The prime feature of the temple is the Shiva idol in a sorrowful mood, after the self immolation of Sati during the renowned Daksha­yaga. This is an ancient temple with many artistic scriptures on the walls. Maha Shivaratri is a huge draw in this temple. The temple is suitable for meditation and prayers. Daily pujas are offered in this temple.
