Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Location

The Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary is a major tourist attraction of Marigaon. According to a belief, the forest was named after Pabitora, the daughter of the King of Mayong. In 1971, the forest was announced as a reserved forest, inhabited by the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. It was later declared as the Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary in 1987. The sanctuary covers an area of around 38.83 hectares.

Apart from rhinoceros, the sanctuary is also home to leopard, civet cat, Asiatic buffalo, bear, wild pig and many other wildlife animals. The sanctuary provides shelter to more than 2000 migratory birds like stork, pheasant, crane and swamp. At the sanctuary, tourists can engage in safaris and elephant rides.
