Jim Corbett National Park

Location

Jim Corbett National Park is located in the state of Uttaranchal in India. The National Park was named after Jim Corbett, who had hunted down a number of tigers here, after they turned man-eaters. Jim Corbett National Park India is the oldest National Park in India.

Jim Corbett National Park India is among the nine Tiger Reserves created as part of the Project Tiger, launched in 1973. Project Tiger was a program launched for tiger conservation. With a core area of around 520 sq km and more than 100 species of trees, around 50 mammal species, nearly 600 bird species and more than 20 reptile species, Corbett National Park truly offers tourists more than they can bargain for.

Corbett National Park is located at a distance of around 260 km from the national capital Delhi. It can be reached by railways, road and air. The nearest airport at Phoolbagh is roughly 50 km away from Corbett National Park. The nearest railway station is at Ramnagar, around 12 km away. From Delhi, it can be reached by road also.

History

The Corbett National Park was once a popular hunting of the British and was named after the legendary Jim Corbett, the hunter -turned naturalist who contributed to the setting up of this park. Corbett National Park was the first national park to come under the Project tiger launched in Corbett Park in 1973 with the aid of world Wildlife Fund.
