Garh Jungle (Dharma Garh of Raja Surath)

Garh Jungle is also called Dharma Garh of Raja Surath and is quite and adventurous place. The place is supposed to be one of oldest places of ancient India.

Presently, Durga Puja is piously done every day here after the rediscovery of this place by Jogiraj Brahmananda Giri, after spending 12 years in deep jungle, of the Dasnami cult. This commemorates the ancient practice of Durga puja at the same temple constructed by Raja Surath. Thousands of devotees across the world visit the place at the special season Durga Puja.

It is also known as the Dharma Garh of Raja Surath and is located towards the eastern end of Durgapur. It is believed to be one of the oldest places of the country. In fact, it is the same place where Raja Surath performed Durga Puja after being instructed by Mahamuni Medhas.

According to the Bhagbats and Puranas, this is the place of Satya Yuga. When Raja Surath was defeated by the Bhils and the Kols, he was blessed by Medhas Mahamuni whose ashram was located here. But, in the modern days, it was Jogiraj Brahmananda Giri of the Dasnami cult, who revived the place and once again started the Durga Puja at the temple of Raja Surath. During the time of the Durga Puja, thousands of devotees visit from nearby areas.
