Cheraman Masjid

It is believed that the Cheraman Perumal Juma Masjid was constructed in Kodungallur in 629 AD. It was the first Islamic religious place in India and second in the World.

The renowned King of Muziris, the Cheraman Perumal went to Arabia and embraced Islam. He settled in Jeddah and married to the sister of the King of Jeddah. After the death od Cheraman Perumal, the king came to this place and constructed the present Juma Masjid as per the wish of Cherama King. The mosque was built in the style and design of a Hindu temple. The Masjid was destroyed in the 1341 AD flood. The present Cheraman Juma Masjid is the renovated one.
