Marleshwar Temple

Location

The Marleshwar Temple’s foundations are believed to have been laid by Lord Parshuram. The temple is built on a rock face such that the devotee has to pass throught the cave to see the deity. Situated at Marleshwar in Ratnagiri district, about 60 kms from Chiplun on Devrukh road, many snakes are seen around the temple but they do not bite the visitors. The Marleshwar Yatra is a major event of the temple that takes place during Makar Sankranti.

The Dhareshwar Falls, located close to the Marleshwar Temple, are especially beautiful during the monsoon season.

Mallinath Jain Tirth Kosbad Temple

Location

There are 24 Tirthankaras or prophets in the Jain religion. The first is Lord Rishabh and the 24th is Lord Mahavir. Present-day Jainism has Lord Mahavir’s dictums as the basis. The Mallinath Jain Tirth Kosbad Temple is based on the Jainism religion.

The Mallinath Jain Tirth Kosbad Temple is located in the areas of Prabha Devi. This popular temple is dedicated to Adinath. The Mallinath Jain Tirth Koshad Temple is the largest temple. It follows the traditions of jainism.

Manmod Hills

Location

The Manmod Hills at an altitude of more than 1000 meters, has several rocks with ancient inscriptions and carvings. Some of the carvings are related to the Bhimashankar temple while others include carvings of Bhootlinga and Amba-Ambika. These have a strong resemblance to traditional Buddhist styles.

Gupt Bhimashankar

Location

It is a 2kms. down hill trek from the temple in thick forest. The Bhima River which originates from the temple flows to this place, disappears and then suddenly originates further ahead. It said to be the origin of the River Bhima. A small waterfall gushes over a 'lingam' carved out of stone to mark the exact spot. A tiny brass 'Nandi' guards the spot.

Agasti Rishi Ashram

Location

Legend has it that Lord Ram and his brother Laxman visited Shri Agasti Rishi to seek his blessings and help in rescuing Sita from Ravana. This old dwelling is mentioned in the epic of Ramayana. Several people visit the ashram every year. Efforts are on to maintain the ashram in good condition.

The Agasti Rishi Ashram is placed on the banks of the Pravara river. The legendary dwelling has a place in the scripts of Ramayan. Agasti Rishi gave Rama a miraculous arrow when Lord Rama, Laxman and Sita visited the Rishi. The arrow was used by Rama to kill Ravana to rescue Sita from the devil.

The peaceful hermitage of Bhandardara draws a lot of tourists. It is often a accommodating place for many tourists. The hermitage is preferred because of its beauty and quiet atmosphere.

Shah Ganj Masjid

Location

The Shah Ganj Masjid is one of the finest buildings to be seen in any part of India. The mosque is on a elevated platform. It has shops on 3 of the outer sides. The 4th is open and can be ascended through a flight of steps. The architecture style is Indo-Saracenic. The interior contain 24 pillars out of which 6 pillars are arranged in the form of a square.

The court-yard in the front comprises 2 large water tanks. The entrance is in the pattern of a little mosque and it has a pointed archway and two towers.
