Torana Ganapati temple is one of the Ganesha temples in Sringeri. This temple has direct relation with Sringeri Mutt and its activities. Pilgrims visiting Sringeri Mutt unfailingly offer prayers at this temple.
Legendary stories tell that Jagadguru Sri Nrisimha Bharati (IV) went into meditation to the temples in Sringeri from the invaders who wanted to establish their Kingdom in Sringeri. He got an immaculate vision and was advised to offer prays to the God near to him. He searched the nearby regions and found a Ganesha idol on the threshold above head. Hence this Ganesha is known as Thorana Ganapati.
