Powa Mecca

Location

Powa Mecca, located near the Madhava Temple, is an important pilgrimage centre of the Muslim community. The word ‘Powa’ means 1/4th and hence, Powa Mecca figuratively refers to having some of the sanctity of Mecca. It is popular for the tomb of Pir Giasuddin Auliya, a pioneer of Islam.

It was constructed by Mir Lutufullah-i-Shiraji in 1657, during the rule of the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan. It is believed that the foundation of this mosque was laid using the soil brought from Mecca.
