Mahabilva Keshwar temple

Location

The Mahabilva Keshwar temple, also known as the Hari Hara temple, is a famous Shiva temple of the Kathua District. This temple is known as Mahabilva Keshwar as it is situated amidst several Bilva trees. It is believed that Lord Shiva is pleased when Bilva leaves, also called Bil-patri in the local language, are offered to him.

The 60 ft high main temple sanctum is mounted on a square platform. It enshrines images of different gods, such as Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, five-headed idol of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Lord Bhairava. It is believed that the Pandavas visited Billawar during their exile.

The Mahabilva Keshwar temple was constructed by Pandavas, for worshipping Lord Shiva. Another major attraction of the site is an ancient statue of Lord Hanuman.
