Literal meaning of the Sanskrit word Kamadgiri is wish fulfilling peak. This happens to be the most sought after places in Chitrakoot since it is believed that it was here that Ram, Sita and Lakshman spent most of their time during their exile. Kamadgiri is the original Chitrakoot and it houses a vast stretch of holy shrines dedicated to various gods in the Hindu Pantheon.
