Gurudwara Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib

Location

The beautiful white structure of the Gurudwara Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib is the biggest and among the most important Gurudwara for the Sikhs. It is one of the 4 seats of authority of the Sikh religion and is therefore also called “Takht Kesgarh Sahib”.

In 1699, on the day of Baisakhi, Guru Gobind Singhji fulfilled Guru Nanak’s mission and through baptism of the double edged sword the Sikh was consummated as Khalsa (saint and soldier in direct commune with the Guru and God). Guru Gobind Singhji got himself baptized by the Panj Pyaras, or the 5 beloved ones. The holy book of the Sikhs, Guru Granth Sahib, is kept in the main hall of this Gurudwara.

The Kesar sahib Fort was built around 1699. It was attacked by the enemies but who could never penetrate it. Today the fort is in ruins and nearly non existent.

The Gurudwara’s beauty is enhanced at night when the entire structure is illuminated.

In 1699, on the occasion of the festival of Baisakhi, Guru Nanak's mission was fulfilled by the 10th Guru, Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, when, through baptism of the double-edged-sword the Sikh was consummated as the Khalsa-Saint Soldier- in direct commune with the Guru and God. Still more astonishing is the fact that the Guru had got himself baptised by the Panj-Pyaras, the five beloved ones, who had offered him their heads to uphold Dharma - the righteous cause.
