Gurudwara Paonta Sahib

Location

The Gurdwara attracts devotees of Guru Gobind Singh. It was home to the Guru for over 4 years of his life and was also the place where the Guru meditated. It was here that Guru Gobink Singh is said to have drafted the holy words contained in the ‘Dasam Granth’. There are several places of specific interest here, like the Shri Talab Asthan where salaries were paid out, the Shri Dastar Asthan where competitions in tying turbans were held, the Kavi Durbar where poetical discourses were conducted, the memorial commemorating Kalpi Rishi, and a wonderful museum housing exhibits pertaining to the life and times of Guru Gobind Singh.

This site was Guru Gobind Singh's home for over four years and it was here that he wrote the Dasam Granth. Within its precincts are the Sri Talab Asthan where he disbursed salaries and the Sri Dastar Asthan were he judged the turban tying competitions. At the Kavi Darbar Asthan, poetic symposia were held. There is also a memorial to sage Kalpi and a museum that displays pens and weapons of the period among other artefacts.
