Dhammagiri village lies at the base of a mountain. The large Golden Pagoda is the central theme of Dhammagiri and serves as a landmark for Igatpuri On the outskirts of the village is a “matt” (house of saints) called “Vipassana”. Igatpuri is well known as the International meditation centre of Vipassana and the largest Vipassana yoga centre.
Vipassana meaning to “see things as they really are”, is said to be a logical and pure natural science. It is a Buddhist style of meditation technique taught to reduce tension and create positive energy for the mind and body. The centre is famous world wide and attracts people from within India as well as abroad.
