Chandanwari

Location

Chandanwari, situated at a distance of 16 km from Pahalgam, lies at an elevation of 2,923 m. Famous for its snow bridge, this location serves as the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra that takes place every year, from July to August. With a fairly flat terrain linking Chandanwari to Pahalgam, the location is easily accessible by car.

Chandanwari is the place from where the famous Amarnath yatra starts. Situated around 16 km from Pahalgam, Chandanwari is around 30 km away from Amarnath Cave, the abode of Lord Shiva. The yatra is undertaken every year in the month of Sawan (rain) when a Shiva linga gets naturally formed inside the cave. The way to Chandanwari is the main highlight of the place. It is really a wonderful journey. The road is covered with pine trees on both sides and there is a stream as well in between.
Hajan : Hajan, on the way to Chandanwari, is an idyllic spot for a picnic. Filmgoers will recognize it instantly as it has been the location of several movie scenes.
