Bhitargaon Temple

Location

Bhittargaon temple is an ancient temple built out of large bricks, standing tall at 15.41 meters. This ancient temple is a masterpiece of the Gupta period, set in mud mortar and is an example of skillful craftsmanship of workers who decorated the exteriors of the temple with intricate carvings on the brick and terracotta panels.

The excellent architecture proves that this temple has survived many many years. The temple consists of only the sanctum and the porch in the interiors. The sanctum of the temple stands incomplete indicating the absence of an upper chamber that was struck by lightning and destroyed in the 18th century.
