Shiva Temple

Location

The Mathura Shiva Temple is one of the very popular holy places in Mathura and also enjoys a distinction for being consecrated to Lord Shiva. The specialty of this temple is that four siva lingas are located on the four sides of the city and protect it.

Rangbhoomi

Location

Rangbhoomi, Mathura situated opposite to the post office in Mathura, is said to be the wrestling arena where Krishna killed Kansa in a duel.

As per the Hindu mythology, Kansa had put his father and parents of Lord Krishna in prison and usurped the throne. Krishna killed him and set his parents free reinstating his maternal grandfather Ugrasena on the throne. Mathura Rangbhoomi was the witness to the duel where Lord Krishna killed the evil demon Kansa.

Potara Kund

Location

Potara Kund in Mathura takes a person back into the historic era when Lord Krishna was a toddler and used to play in the streets of the city. This kund is made up of sandstone. People are of the view that this particular kund is the place where the clothes of young lord Krishna were washed. It is a magnificent red sandstone, stepped structure and is of a lot of importance for the Hindus. A lot of pilgrims from the various parts of the country come here to pay a visit and watch this holy site.

Katra Masjid

The history of Katra Masjid in Mathura takes us back to the Mughal period when Aurangzeb was the ruling emperor. This Masjid was built under the patronage of Aurangzeb, who was a pious Muslim, and has a magnificent architecture which is simply a delight to watch.

Dwarkadish Temple

Location

The Mathura Dwarkadish Temple was erected in 1814. It is situated in the heart of the town. It is run by Vallabhacarya followers. It enjoys an exclusive architectural magnificence and performs some of the very unique and interesting rituals. Sitting close to Yamuna River, the spectacle of this site is a treat for eyes. This scared temple was constructed by Seth Gokul Das Parikh. He was a treasurer of the estate of Gwalior. He was a staunch believer in Lord Krishna and hence dedicated this temple to him.
