Rabdentse Ruins

Location

Rabdentse Ruins, destroyed by the invasions of Nepalese army, was the second capital of former kingdom of Sikkim till 1814. During the period from 1670 to 1814, the state was under the rule of king of Sikkim from this place. At present, the ruins of palaces and chortens can be seen, which are located in close proximity to Pemayangste Monastery.

From the vintage point of this second capital of former Sikkim, beautiful view of Mount Kanchenjunga ranges can be enjoyed. In addition, this place has been declared as a site of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Chhingpuii Thlan

Location

Chhingpuii Thlan, also known as the Chhingpuii Stone Memorial, is located between Baktawng and Chhingchhip villages, on the main Aizawl-Lunglei Road. The memorial is named after Chhingpuii, a beautiful woman of the region. She married a young man named Kaptuanga, but was kidnapped and killed during the war between the rival chiefs of the region.

Chhingpuii was killed during the second civil war between Chhak leh Tlang Indo, East and West War, from 1877 to 1880. Her husband was unable to bear this tragic end of his love story and committed suicide at this site.

Syntu Ksiar

Location

Syntu Ksiar, meaning the ‘flower of gold’, is situated on the banks of the Myntdu river. The place is renowned for being the centre of the freedom struggle led by Kiang Nangbah. A Kiang Nangbah Memorial has been constructed here, in his honour.

Bongal Yapgo

Location

Bongal Yapgo is a stockade and is in the Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh. Made of random rubble masonry, it was constructed in the 19th century during the war of the Adi Padams and the British.

Nijomaghat

Location

Nijomaghat was built by the British in the 19th century and is located at a distance of around 15 km from Roing. The Ghat that once served as the major mode for the British to enter the hills was named after Mr. J. F. Needham, who was a British Political Officer.

Surrounded by lush green vegetation and mountains, this Ghat is among the popular picnic spots of Roing. It is believed that the river current has chiselled the rocks of the Himalayas and has made numerous figures. Tourists can also enjoy the small ferry ride connecting Dambuk with Roing.

Rukmini Nati

Location

Rukmini Nati is also known as the Chimiri Fort and is situated around 12 km from Roing in the heart of the Chimiri Village. It is believed that this fort belongs to the period ranging from the 14th to the 15th century. Visitors can also trace the ruins of burnt and baked bricks representing the progress of the erstwhile civilisation.

Jaswant Garh

Location

Jaswant Garh is located at a distance of around 21 kilometre from Sela Pass towards Tawang. This Garh is a home of a warrior, Jaswant Singh who sacrificed during the war that was fought against Chinese soldiers. He fought continuously for 72 hours, during the Indo-China war that occurred in 1962. The place is open to travellers to pay a tribute and salute to this great warrior.

Tawang War Memorial

Location

Tawang War Memorial, a 40 foot high multi-hued memorial, has a structure constructed in stupa design. Dedicated to the martyrs of Sino-India War held in 1962, this memorial is nestled among beautiful peaks, which overlooks the Tawang-Chu valley. Popularly known as Namgyal Chorten, the memorial has names of 2,420 dead soldiers. The names of the soldiers are etched in gold on around 32 black granite plagues.
