Rangit Valley Passenger Cable Car

Location

Popularly known as the Ropeway, the Darjeeling-Rangit Valley Passenger Cable Car is India's oldest passenger ropeway and connects Darjeeling with Singla Bazaar at the bottom of the valley.

The renovated cable car terminal station is about 3 km north of the town and is situated at what is known as the North Point, near the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. Floating high above the lush green valley, the cable car that is supported on a monocable covers a distance of about 2 km and takes about half an hour to reach the Takavar tea estate.

It is an absolutely exhilarating experience to travel through the misty clouds and get a bird’s eye view of the lush green tea plantations beneath. A ride definitely not recommended for the faint hearted.
