Mrigavani Wildlife Park

Location

Mrigavani Wildlife Park is also known as Mrigavani National Park, in Chilkur, which is situated around 25 km from Hyderabad. The park covers a huge area of about 700 acres. The plants of this park are of tropical dry deciduous types. It consists of about 600 plant species constituting algae, bryophytes, pteridophytes, herbs, climbers, shrubs, and huge trees. The important trees are bamboo, neem, rosewood, sandalwood, teak, and so on.

Mahavir Harina Vanasthali Wildlife Park

Location

Once the private hunting ground for former Nizam of Hyderabad, the Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park has a large population of Blackbuck deer.

Mahavir Harina Vanasthali Wildlife Park is also known as Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park. It is named after Lord Mahavira. It is located in Vanasthalipuram, which is 15 km away from Hyderabad. This park has been established in the year 1975. The most important attraction of this park is the endangered black bucks. During monsoons, the park appears spellbinding with various kinds of colourful flowers flowering all around. The park has been estimated to consist of about 400 deer.

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park

Location

Named after the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, this national park is situated in Jubilee Hills. The park, spread over an area of more than 150 hectares, is established to safeguard the biodiversity of the place. Chiran Palace, which belongs to the former Nizam of Hyderabad, is seen here.

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park is located in the Jubilee Hills suburb of Hyderabad and has over 600 species of plant life, 140 species of birds and 30 different varieties of butterflies and reptiles

Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary

Location

Earlier known as Hulungapar Reserve Forest, Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary is the only wildlife park in India to be named after a non-human primate. Covering an area of 1915 hectors, it was given the status of a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1997 by Assam Government. The main attraction of the park are the many different species of primates that are found here. In a normal wildlife park, it is said that it tougher to sight a primate than a tiger. But sighting a primate is far more easier in Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary.

Jatinga

Location

Just 9 km from Haflong. World wide famous for bird mystery (Birds Harakiri). The migratory birds come during the months August to November & it becomes the ornithologist's attraction. From the elevated watch tower one can see them yielding to their death wish & their little plumage dropping down.
Jatinga, 9 kilometers off Haflong is famous as a place for the mass suicide of the birds. The whole of this area is blanketed with Blue Vandas Orchids. The bird watching centre here is the chief attraction.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Location

Pobitora (Pure) Wildlife Sanctuary situated in Morigaon district of Assam covers an area of 38.8 sq km. Situated at distance of 50 km from Guwahati, the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has been making waves due to its excellent habitat for one horned Rhinoceros.

The Pobitora Rhino breeding programme has been so successful that the Park has exceeded its rhino-bearing capacity and is overpopulated. Besides the Rhinos Asiatic Buffalo, Wild bear, Leopard, and wild cats are also provided the protection and care of the Sanctuary.

Over 200 migratory birds find a place of right at the marshy lands at Pobitora. The reptile family also stakes its claim and is found in abundance inside the Sanctuary.

Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park, a World Heritage Site, is famous as a preserve of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. It covers a wide area of the Nagaon and Golaghat districts of Assam. The Brahmaputra River flows from the northern side of the park. The Kaziranga National Park has woodlands, water bodies and grasslands.

The park has four major mountain ranges, namely the Kohora Range, Agartoli Range, Bagori Range and Burapahar Range. The Kohara Range is rich in bird species. Elephants and turtles can be seen in the Agartoli Range. The thick plantations of semi-evergreen forests of the Bagori Range provide shelter to the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. The giant hornbill, hoolock gibbon and capped langur can be seen in the Burapahar Range.

Assam State Zoo

Location

The Assam State Zoo encompassing over 130 hectares of land boasts of an astonishing collection of some rare and extinct species of wild animals settled comfortably in their natural habitat. The whiter tigers, one horned rhinos, Swamp tapirs and leopards to name a few, rule the roost and the hearts of the visiting tourists.

Saikhowa National Park

Location

Situated around 60 Km from Digboi, Saikhowa National Park is in the Dibrugarh district. By covering an area of 650 sq. Km, Saikhowa National Park is the largest wildlife park in the whole of Assam. The park is situated on the banks of River Brahmaputra making it an ideal spot for many rare and endangered species. The park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1986 and today is considered as one of the 19 biodiversity hot spots in the world. The park is most famous for the variety of avifauna found here.
