Siliserh Lake Palace

Location

An idyllic picnic spot with enchanting landscape of wooded hills and beautiful chhatris on the embankment of the 10.5 sq. km placid lake. A magnificent royal palace and the hunting lodge, built by Maharaja Vinay Singh in 1845 A. D. for his queen Shila stands overlooking the lake. Now converted as the Hotel Lake Palace, it offers boating and sailing facilities and is a delight for the trigger-happy photographers and film makers.

This is a wonderful picnic spot located 13 kilometers south west of Alwar. The lake covers an area of 10.5 square kilometers and is a fine spot for an excursion from Neemrana. The Lake palace was built in 1845 by Maharaja Vinay Singh for his wife. It is now a heritage hotel.

Location

This picnic spot amidst gardens is 10 kms away from Almora. Most of the people who live here are foreigners. Buses and taxis come up to a point called Panuwanaula and from there onwards one has to walk.

Lamb's Rock

Location

Lamb's rock is an excellent picnic spot near Coonoor. It is a point on the way to Dolphin's Nose. It was named after the man Captain Lamb who tried in earnest to open a path to that particular point. With such a view, no wonder this man put forth such a valiant effort to reach the point. The rock is a jagged cliff that drops down several hundred feet to the lush jungle below. On the right hand is the Hulical ravine. It is possible to see the Coonoor stream some 5000 feet below. This vantage point also provides you with an excellent view of the Coimbatore plains.

Dodda Ghosai Ghat

Location

The Dodda Ghosai Ghat is nearer to Gumbaz. It is located in a place known as Ganzaam. It is a picnic spot 2 km away from Gumbaz. Sri Kashi Visweswara Swamy temple is also situated here close to the river Kaveri.

Ghosal Ghat is a common route to Triveni Sangam which is located one kilometer from Gumbaz. This is also a picnic spot where boating facility is available. On the banks of the River Kaveri Narmishamba temple is located. To reach the temple one has to proceed via Ghosal Ghat.

People can go nearer to this place through vehicle and its parking fees is Rs 5.

Kuruvadweep

Location

Kuruva Island is situated on the tributaries of the river kabani and is a fabulous picnic spot. Its serene silence and wide expanse of the evergreen forest leaves you astonishing. This island is isolated but an array of uncommon species of birds, herbs and orchids are the monarchs of Kuruva Island. Kuruva Island is 17 kms to the east of Mananthavady.

Kuruva Island is a vast island of 950 acres abundantly rich with green forest. It is very far from the turbulence of city life making it an exotic place for visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of the nature.

Pandavan Rock

Pandavan Rock gets its name from the Pandavas of Mahabharata who stayed in a cave here during the time of their exile. Pandavan Para, also known as the Rock of the Pandavas is an ideal picnic spot. It takes walking to get to this location, but it is not a hard climb. Most people that are in good health can easily manage the climb. There are several vantage points with terrific views along the trail. The panoramic view that can be seen when you reach the rocky outcrop at the top is exceptional.

Khodri Dak Pathar

Location

It is a beautiful picnic spot just 25 km. from Paonta. There is a beautiful park, a swimming pool and a tourist Bungalow. At this place the torrential river Yamuna has been tamed into an artificial lake by constructing a barrage. From here one can get a fantastic view of the lake and the park nearby. While going from Paonta to Khodri one will be delighted to have the canal side drive. Chhibran power house is an unique sight to see as the entire structure has been built underground.

Fagu

Location

Those who are in search of a nice picnic spot can head straight to the village of Fagu, 6 km from Kufri. A three-km-long trek till Chharabra is a wonderful option for trekkers. The village looks over the Giri Valley.
