Muzhapilangad Beach

Muzhappilangad is 14kms from Mahe. A long clean beach, its enchanting ambience invites you to swim. sunbathe or just lounge around. Black rocks protect Muzhappilangad from the currents from the deep, making its shallow water a swimmers paradise. Muzhappilangad is Kerala's only drive in beach which is about 5kms long. From Muzhappilangad you can see the Dharmadam island (Pacha Thuruth) just across the Arayakkandy river, a remarkable conjunction of beach and island.

Payyambalam Beach

Payyambalam is the beach of Kannur town. It is long and clean. Flat laterite cliffs just into the sea at one end. Picturesque and incredibly beautiful. The Naura cafeteria and the well laid out gardens greet the vistors to Payyambalam. The beach is only walking distance from Fort St.Angelo. Veteran freedom fighters like A.K.G, Swadeshabimani, Chirakkal T etc were cremated here.

Meenkunnu Beach

This beach is located around 11 km from the Kannur city. As you pass through the rough patches of coconut groves, you hardly expect anything stunning, but this is actually what you get. Blue water splash the rocks producing loud noises, the golden sands invite you to sit on it and the breezes play around with your hair as much as they want.

Ezhimala

A beautiful beach and a 286 m high hillock awaits to allure you on your visit to Ezhimala. The water here appears much clean and blue. The hill produces a lot of medicinal herbs. Chances of dolphin spotting is available from Ettikulam bay. Also, a Naval Academy is being developed here. However, permission is required to gain access to it.

Idukki Arch Dam

Location

This is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam, constructed across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills. 550 ft. high and 650 ft. wide, the dam lies close to the Cheruthoni barrage. The Dam was conceived by a superintendent of the Malankara Tea Estate who was on a hunting expedition and instantly recognized the potential of the place for power generation. Surprisingly, there is a famous legend associated with this dam as well. According to it, two natives were cursed by Lord Rama when he caught them staring at bathing Sita.
